Stephen Caleb Herrera's Obituary
Funeral services for Stephen Caleb Herrera, age 15, of Henderson will be Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 2 pm at Rader Funeral Home in Henderson with the Rev. Keith Lybrand and Rev. Ben Hays officiating.
Stephen Caleb Herrera was born on May 14, 1993 in Nacogdoches, Texas and passed away on April 7, 2009 in Henderson, Texas.
Caleb was considered the "family" baby. He was born into a very large, loud, and crazy family. Everyone knew immediately that he was going to be an exceptional person, and he was. He wanted to make his entrance into this world before his due time and it was his unfortunate experience to leave it before then as well, but not before touching many people's lives.
Caleb excelled at any sport he tried. From the time he could walk, he wanted someone to be throwing him a ball. He loved to lift weights and was very proud of his physique.
He loved the outdoors and he could fish for hours for trout and catfish. His favorite memories were of camping with his family at Camp Albert Pike. He pleased us all when he sat around the campfire playing his guitar. Caleb was a gifted guitar player. He could play anything by ear. He was so proud to teach his little brother and enjoyed every minute he practiced with the band.
Caleb loved his country and planned to fly fighter jets in the Air Force.
Caleb loved his Lord and detested hearing the Lord's name used in vain. He had no patience for hypocrisy and enjoyed discussing doctrinal issues. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Henderson, Texas and played lead guitar in the praise band. He wanted to be the first one there and the last one to leave for every service and activity. Open gym with his friends was a favorite with him.
Caleb spent more time with his siblings in 15 years than most do in a lifetime. He was the center of their lives and they all coveted his approval. One of our last memories was of an all out wrestling match that delayed school for quite some time. On our last day with him, he made homemade tortillas and painstakingly cut them into shapes for his little brother.
Caleb's kindness and infectious smile will be greatly missed and we are comforted to know that he is with his Lord in heaven with his arms around his grandpapa and all his questions are answered and all his hurts are healed.
Caleb is survived by his mother and father, Rebekah and Joe Herrera, and his four brothers and sisters, Miachel Herrera, Jaime Quiban and husband, Michael Quiban, Kate Staples and husband, Michael Staples, Hannah Herrera, Isaac Herrera, Aubrey Herrera and Levi Herrera, a grandfather, Joe Herrera, Sr., a grandmother, Donna Jean Carter, and more extended family than we can list. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Doretha Mae Herrera, maternal grandfather, James Edward Carter, and older brother, Jerrod Herrera. Serving as pallbearers are Jeremy Carter, Mark Carter, Phillip Carter, Andrew Carter, Jesse Herrera, Kerry Davis, Joshua Carter and Patrick Jennings. He will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Henderson, Texas.
