Spencer Thompson's Obituary
Spencer Reed Thompson was born April 21, 1960 in Oceanside, New York, to Richard and Adrienne Thompson. He attended Longview High School. He married Karen Casey on November 4, 1989. He had one son, Justin, and one daughter, Meagan. Spencer was an EMT, volunteering for Hallsville EMS during the 1990s. He worked for North American Coal Corporation for 37 years. Spencer completed the last 5 years of that career in South Florida as maintenance manager until retiring in 2022. Moving back to Longview at that time, he continued to stay involved in mining by doing consulting work. Spencer made many friends across the country and even around the world with his caring ways and great sense of humor. He loved animals, playing the bass guitar, and traveling. Spencer enjoyed good food and was especially fond of being introduced to new cuisines. He was a problem solver and could fix anything. Spencer loved Jesus and was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church.
Spencer was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard Thompson and John Thompson. He is survived by his wife Karen, his son Justin Thompson and wife Honey of Longview, his daughter Meagan Thompson of Carthage, grandsons Dylan Thompson and fiancé Andrea Borondy, Derek Ishee, Keeston Lee, granddaughter Makenzie Thompson, sister Maureen Koehler and husband George, brother Thomas Thompson and wife Sheryl, sister Lee-Ann Hunt and husband Bobby, sister-in-law Barbara Thompson and numerous nephews, niece, and additional family and friends.
Spencer passed away on July 29, 2024 at home surrounded by family. Funeral services for Spencer will be held at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview on Saturday, August 3 at 10 AM, with a private family burial to follow at Rosewood Park. A visitation will be held the night before, Friday August 2 between 5 and 7 PM.
