Sidney R. Wilkins' Obituary
Sidney R. Wilkins, 80, of Longview passed away November 13, 2013 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Henderson Texas May 17, 1933 to L.W. Lettie Wilkins.
After high school Sidney enlisted into the United States Navy where he honorably served our country during the Korean War. While in the Navy he served on the USS St. Paul and there he spent time in Japan and loved it there. He was an avid sports enthusiast and spent many enjoyable hours watching his son Larry play for Longview Lobos and LA Tech, his son Scotty when he played both football and baseball for the Henderson Lions, his grandson Trent who played sports at University of Houston, his grandsons Chris and Will who played at Spring Hill. Sidney also enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren play hockey, soccer and volleyball and spending time with his pet dog. He was skilled at both painting and woodworking.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 27 years Elizabeth Wilkins, his son Larry Wilkins and his wife Janie of Houston, son Scotty Wilkins and his wife Melissa of Tyler, step-son Doug Stevens of Tyler, his grandchildren Will Wilkins and his wife Lisa of Denton, Chris Wilkins and his wife Sylvia of Tomball, Trent Allen and his wife Katie of Ft. Worth, Todd Cooper and his wife Shelly of Kingwood, Scotryne and Taylor Wilkins both of Tyler, Alec Chol of the Woodlands Cole Wilkins of Tyler, 11 great-grandchildren and his devoted four-legged companion Riley.
Sidney’s parents, brothers Billy, Delmar, Track and Robert, sisters Virginia, and Martha Jane all precede him in passing.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday, November 15, 2013 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park.
