Shirley Whitehead Hill's Obituary
Shirley Whitehead Hill was born on August 4, 1934 in Jacksonville, Texas and she left this life, at home, on December 14, 2025 in Longview, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, T. J. and Jewel Averyt Whitehead, her husband, Dan Hill, and her brothers, Tom Whitehead and Jack Whitehead, and Jack’s wife Melba.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura Jo Hill; her son Tim Hill and his wife Laura Kay Hill; her grandson Jacob Hill and his wife Caroline; her grandson Jared Hill, his wife Taylor, and their son Ryan (her beloved great grandson); and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She led a very full and fulfilling life as a wife, mother, and volunteer. She was active for many years with the Pine Tree PTA and she worked as a long-term substitute teacher for Pine Tree High School. She was a much-loved leader with Camp Fire Girls and served on the board of directors for the local Camp Fire Girls. She served on the Library Board for the City of Longview.
She was an active member of American Legion Auxiliary for many years, even serving as the Texas Department President.
She provided support to her husband and son with Boy Scouts for over 50 years as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Troop Committee member. She helped several young Scouts complete the paperwork for their Eagle Scout by providing editing and typing assistance.
She was a founding member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and served as an Elder over the years.
The family expresses our sincere appreciation to the organizations that helped us care for her in the last couple of years:
Summer Meadows Skilled Care Facility; Christus Home Health; Life Care Health Services; And especially to Chanley with Visiting Angels.
Services will be held at Rader Funeral Home Chapel on Judson Rd. this Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with a short, family graveside at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Longview Public Library or the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center.
