I knew Shirley for years because I grew up in Avinger and she was good friends with my Mom, Carla McCain. When I moved home I saw Shirley far more often and we had some wonderful times and laughs together. I loved her infectious laugh and she could be mischievous as all get out. I will never forget her, and regret I only learned of her death several days ago when I was out of town. Just seeing her made me smile because I knew we were about to talk and that I would wind up laughing until I couldn't breathe. She was truly a remarkable person and I will always hold the memory of her dear to my heart. Bless you, her family, and may you heal from her loss with the memory of her love.

Mrs. Alford was my 6th grade teacher at Pinewood Park Elementary. I have never forgotten her and have thought of her through the years. I know she taught us many lessons that 6th grade students are supposed to learn, but what I remember most is her kindness. She could always sense a sad kid or a hurt kid and knew just what to do or say to make it better. There was no depth to her kindness. Keeping you, her family, in my thoughts. I wish you comfort in the many good memories I know you have.

To the family of Shirlee Alford- Mrs. Alford was a wonderful co-worker and friend. I had the privilege of working with her at Forest Park. If I had something special that I wanted to do with my English students and our library didn't have it, it would mysteriously show up within a few days! After my mother passed away she was always there to encourage me. She was truly a blessing. My prayers are with you!

Mrs. Alford was my 6th grade teacher at Pinewood Park. One day she got very upset in class and said "crap" I said, "Mrs. Alford you said a bad word" and she said," oh no Terri that isn't a bad word" I said " ok I can say that word too" Mrs Alford said, "well no that is only a grown-up word" I really didn't understand that but I believed her because she said it. Mrs. Alford saved me in 7th grade when I was struggling in advanced English in Mrs Hastings class at Foster Jr High. Mrs. Alford tutored me so much that I started asking Mrs Hastings questions which she was unable to answer thanks to Mrs. Alford(she gave me many of the questions to stump the teacher) lol Because of Mrs. Alford I later became an English teacher in Houston. I was able to tell her this years later
