Shelton E ?Silky? Sullivan
Services for Shelton E. ?Silky? Sullivan 63, of Longview will be held at Noon Saturday, August 30, 2003 at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mike Lindstrom officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mr. Sullivan was born on May 21, 1940 in Wichita Falls to Delbert and Gladys Sullivan. He passed away on August 27, 2003 in a Longview hospital.
Mr. Sullivan began his career at Markham hospital where he became known by his friends as ?Silky?. He worked as the head of X-ray with Good Shepherd medical Center from 1974-1975, before moving to Gladewater hospital where he worked from 1975 to 1982. In 1982 he became a part of the Gregg County Sheriff?s office, where he worked as both an officer and civilian until a recent illness. Mr. Sullivan was dedicated in every way to law enforcement. In November of 2002, he received a certificate presented by the Gregg County Service Award Program for his 20 years of service to the citizens of Gregg County, and in August of 2003 received the Silent Hero Certificate of Achievement for his professionalism, dedication, positive attitude, tireless efforts, and excellence in serving the public.
He was a member of the Bob E. Monk Independent Order of Oddfellows #202, Longview Rebecca Lodge #108, East Texas Peace Officers Association where he held the position of 2nd Vice President, and a member of Winterfield United Methodist Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Sullivan was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife of whom he married on November 10, 1961, Pamela Sullivan of Longview; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jerry Thacker of Longview; grandchildren, David, Timothy, Jessica, Andrew, April, Rebecca, and an anticipated little one, Silky Landon Thacker; his mother; and sisters, Delores Fore, and Pamela Moore both of Cat Spring.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM tonight, August 29, 2003 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
