Shelby Ray Peden's Obituary
Shelby Ray Peden of Longview, Texas passed away with his wife and family by his side on Sunday, February 5th, 2023 at the age of 80. Born on November 25th, 1942 in Glasgow, Kentucky the fifth of eight children born to William Clyde Peden and Leona Morgan Peden. After High School, Ray enlisted in the United States Marine Corps June 10th, 1960 and married his sweetheart Karen Sue Mayes on December 21st, 1961.
Baptized into Christ in 1953 at the Green Street, church of Christ in Glasgow, Kentucky; he later served as an elder of the Walnut Street church of Christ in Garland, Texas and the North Main church of Christ in Gladewater, Texas. At the time of his passing, Ray faithfully worshipped with the saint that meet at Harley Ridge Chapel. His service to God remains an example to us all.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, William Clyde Peden and Leona Morgan Peden, Three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen Peden, Their children: Beverley Vess and her husband Dan of Grand Prairie, Texas; Connie Jackson and her husband Riley of Lufkin, Texas; Kenny Peden and his wife Salinda of Longview, Texas. Ray is also survived by two brothers: Jimmy Peden and Henry Peden of Glasgow, Kentucky. He was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Jamin Vess, Tia Vess King and husband Matthew; Carl Jackson II and wife Heather; Christopher Jackson, Charles Jackson, Bradley Peden and wife Monica; Elise Peden Carr and husband Chris; Alexander Peden, Bryce Peden, Cody Chapman and wife Emily; Katelyn Vann and husband Keegan; Sarah Effarah and husband Sam; and Alexandria Fairchild and husband Ryan. Ray was also blessed with twenty great-grandchildren.
The memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 11th, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Harley Ridge Chapel, 4344 Harley Ridge Road, Longview, Texas 75604. Officiating ministers are Kenny Peden, Daniel Vess and Paul White. Serving as pallbearers: Jamin Vess, Matthew King, Carl Jackson II, Charles Jackson, Bradley Peden, and Bryce Peden. Honorary pallbearers include Christopher Jackson, Alexander Peden and Chris Carr.
Interment will take place at Rosewood Cemetery, 1884 FM1844, Longview, Texas 75605 following the memorial service.
