Sharon Rushton
Sharon Dee Rushton passed away on June 25, 2017 as a result of a heart attack. Sharon was born July 30, 1946 in Henderson, TX to Margaret Kate and William Ferguson. She was a graduate of Henderson High School, Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin University where she received both her Bachelor’s and Masters’ Degrees in Education.
She taught elementary school in Marshall and Sabine. She belonged to the Methodist Church and was a member of the Pine Tree Chapter of Eastern Star.
Her husband of 40 years, George “Danny” Rushton preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother, Margaret “Kate” Harris; her son and daughter-in-law Biff and Laura Rushton of Austwell, TX; her son Kip Rushton of Longview and the joys of her life, her four granddaughters, Lyndey, Shelby, Bailey and Courtney. Her grandchildren called her “Gran Gran”. Their favorite times together were the many hours they spent together in the kitchen learning how to cook. Their specialty being their sour cream poppy seed cake.
Her Boxer “Rocky” was her constant companion. She loved to spend time with family and friends, to cook and to travel. She and her traveling companions, Nancy King and Linda Vidler Armstrong and Sharon shared a friendship that lasted over 60 years.
Due to the wishes of the deceased, there will be no family visitation, funeral or memorial. Instead of that, please take someone out to lunch. Tell them you love them. Toward the end of the meal, lift a glass in celebration of Sharon’s life. That’s what she wanted as she believed life was to be lived and enjoyed.
According to Sharon’s wishes, she was cremated. Her ashes will be spread at the same places the ashes of her late husband were spread at their favorite vacation places – Strawberry Hill at Yachats, Oregon, Face Rock at Bandon, Oregon and in the Rogue River near Galice, Oregon where they Kayaked.
Sharon’s zest for life and spirit will live on forever in each of us—
