Shahin Parsi's Obituary
On Monday, July 27, 2020, at 85 years of age, Shahin Parsi passed away.
Shahin loved life. She loved being a mom, and her four sons are eternally grateful for it. She exuded kindness and joy, and anyone who met her adored and admired her for it. She had an irrepressible, contagious laugh that filled every room and everyone’s heart. Shahin will be greatly missed.
Shahin was born Kobra Alizadeh on July 2, 1935. She grew up in Bandar-e-Anzali, a small town on the coast of the Caspian Sea in Iran. She was a talented, hardworking student who became a nurse, graduating at the top of her class. She worked for several years as a midwife and director of nursing. In Tehran, she met her husband, who became an obstetrician-gynecologist. In 1965, they moved from Iran to the United States, living in Ohio, New York, New Jersey, and eventually Texas, where they raised their children. They have lived in Longview, Texas since 1978. In addition to raising her children, Shahin used her healthcare and business acumen to work alongside her husband to help him maintain a thriving medical practice.
With her indomitable spirit and generous nature, Shahin embraced life with joy, humor, and always laughter. For many years, she was an ardent walker, often walking with friends on Cargill Long Park Trail. One of her great joys in life was cooking Persian dishes for her family and friends. Her greatest sources of pride were her children and grandchildren. She remained a tirelessly devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
In her final months, Shahin’s fond caregivers spoke of her with the same words so many people had used throughout her entire life: sweet, sweetheart, funny, angel. As one of them warmly told her sons: Shahin would kiss the caregiver’s hands and thank her for everything she did. Shahin’s goodness never left her.
Shahin is survived by her husband, Pake Parsi, MD, and their four children and their children’s spouses: Kayhan Parsi (Nanette Elster), Pat Parsi (Danielle Rouso-Parsi), Daryush Parsi (Pardis Chamani-Parsi), and Novid Parsi (Matthew Blakely). Shahin also cherished her six grandchildren: Gabriel, Dominic, Allanah, Renzo, Ava, and Adrian.
Shahin’s family will hold a private service. The family asks that any contributions be sent in her name to the American Heart Association at www2.heart.org/goto/Shahin_Parsi or the American Nurses Foundation at nursingworld.org/foundation.
