Sarah Elizabeth Lewis Happel's Obituary
Sarah Happel was born on June 3, 1932 in Bluff Dale, TX the ninth of ten children to John Bolden Lewis and Lizzie Franklin Lewis. She passed away on October 26, 2015 after a battle with cancer. She was married to Philip Eugene Happel on May 27, 1950 in Weatherford, TX.
The Happels moved to Longview in 1968, where Sarah went to work for East Texas Bank and Trust. She attended Bank Marketing School in Boulder, CO. She was active in the community for many years, including the Chamber of Commerce, GSMC board member, National Association of Bank Women, Zonta International and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She taught Sunday school at Winterfield United Methodist Church.
Sarah was preceded in death her son-in-law, Eddie Koon and youngest daughter, Ann Fisher; her oldest sister, Bessie Lewis and three brothers, L.C. Lewis, H.C. Lewis and John L. Lewis and her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 65 years, Phil; her daughter, Debra Lynn Koon; grandson, James Koon and wife Ashley and great grandson Jamie; Kelsey Koon and wife Lindsey all of Longview. Her remaining siblings are Ralph Lewis, Robert Lewis and Leta Davis of Ft. Worth, Theresa Tolbert of Bolton and Fran Pannell of Plano.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Winterfield United Methodist Church, Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Larry Day officiating. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Rader Funeral Home, Longview.
