Sarah Louise LeTourneau Dick's Obituary
Louise Dick was called home to be with the Lord on June 18, 2017 at the age of 97. Louise was the only daughter of Robert G. and Evelyn LeTourneau who started the LeTourneau Factory and LeTourneau University at Longview, Texas in 1946. She was born on April 2, 1920 in Stockton, California. She attended Wheaton College, and married Gustav Dick on February 14, 1940 in Toccoa, Georgia.
Her husband Gus, worked for R.G. LeTourneau Company and they lived in Peoria, Illinois, Toccoa, Georgia, Goshen, Indiana, and Vicksburg, Mississippi. In 1952, Gus and Louise moved with their children to Liberia, West Africa, where Gus supervised a mission project and also a road construction project for the Liberian government.
The last years of their marriage they lived in Moline, Illinois with a brief move to DesMoines, Iowa while Gus was working for John Deere Company. After Gus died in 1980, Louise moved to Longview, Texas. Louise worked with Missionary Tech Team in Longview and did work on several books, some of which were “Mom’s Special Recipes,” “Clips from Tom M. Olson,” “R.G. Talks About” and “Notes on Psalms.”
Louise spent much of her time knitting beautiful sweaters which she gave to friends and family. She was accomplished at sewing and needlework and was very generous with her talents.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gus; her son, Robert Gustav Dick; and her brothers, Caleb LeTourneau, Don LeTourneau, Richard LeTourneau, Roy LeTourneau, Ted LeTourneau and her dear friend, Al Birkelund.
She is survived by her brother, Ben LeTourneau (Bettye); sisters-in-law Louise LeTourneau and Joyce LeTourneau; daughters, Evelyn Dick (Dan Woolpert) Jean Flanigan (David) and Joyce Pope; her daughter-in-law Joanne Dick; six grandchildren, Jeff Dick (Lisa), Steve Dick (Shari), Wes Highfill (Laura Eckert), Ryan Highfill (Laura), Zack Pope (Erika), and Sabrina Pope; five great-grandchildren, Michael Dick, Madeleine Highfill and Ryan Highfill, Mason Highfill and Jonathan Pope; and her dear friend Agnes Birkelund.
A memorial service will be held on July 9, at 2:00 PM, at the Hope Fellowship Church on 300 Hollybrook, Longview, Texas 75605.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation in Louise’s memory to LeTourneau University 1946 Society.
