Sara Cline LeTourneau's Obituary
Services for Sara Cline LeTourneau, 83, of Longview, will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church in Longview, with Reverend Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd.
Pallbearers will be Matt LeTourneau, Aaron LeTourneau, Billy Carpenter, Tracy Lanagan, David Brabham and Eugene Moore.
Sara died October 3, 2003 at her home in Longview. Born November 11, 1919 to Dr. Arthur T. Cline and Sara Ruth Cline in Perkins, Georgia, she grew up in Toccoa, Georgia and was a graduate of Piedmont College in Demarest, Georgia. Sara married R. L. Dick LeTourneau on January 2, 1942 and within months Dick had to leave and serve his country in North Africa for 33 months. During this time alone, Sara taught at Toccoa High School and during the summer months took courses at Columbia College in New York City while staying with in-laws.
Sara was very active in P.T.A. and with other of her children?s school activities.
She was a 50 year member and past Regent of the Aaron Burleson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of the Longview Study
Club. She served several terms as Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, was President of the Women of the Church at First Presbyterian, and was President of the Women?s Council of Presbyterian Women of Grace Presbytery.
Mrs. LeTourneau was awarded Life Membership in the Presbyterian Women, USA.
She was very active in and shared her husband?s interest and passion in the mission field, and traveling with him to missions in Bangladesh, Africa and Taiwan, among others. She held a special interest in and had traveled several times to an Indian mission in a small village in western Brazil operated by a friend, Ladye, whom she met through the local church.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dick; her brothers Harold and Thomas Cline; her brother Myers Stump and his wife Allene Cline; her brother Orren and his wife Juanita Shug Cline; her sister-in-law Barbara Cline; and her brother-in-law Dr. Robert C. Bob Powell.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Sally and Tom Hewett, Betty and Jim Gallaher, Richard E. Knobby LeTourneau, Harold and Mary LeTourneau, and eight grandchildren: Julie Frank, Sara and Aaron LeTourneau, Amy and Matt LeTourneau, Billy Carpenter, Thomas and Katherine Hewett; her sister; Virginia Powell of Rome, Georgia; her brothers, Dan Cline of Atlanta, GA; and George Cline and his wife Ann of Toccoa, GA; and her caregivers, Jolene Jennings, Glenda Rutledge and Debra McGowen.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening, October 6, from 6-8:30 PM.
