Sandra J. Miller's Obituary
Sandra Jane Kane Miller, 77, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013. She was born in Longview, Texas to Edward and Clara Bell Pierce Kane on July 16, 1935.
Having lived in Longview her entire life, Sandra attended all grades in the Pine Tree Independent School District. She was selected Miss Pine Tree 1953 and was a majorette in the band. Sandra married Gilbert D. Miller in 1953, and they had three children. They shared 50 years of marriage before Gib's passing in 2004.
Sandra began her banking career at First State Bank of Greggton. In 1964, she joined Longview Bank & Trust now Texas Bank & Trust where she was instrumental in the success of the Personal Banker Program and served several years in leadership with the Student Board of Directors. Sandra furthered her professional education by graduating from the American Institute of Banking in Boulder, CO. She retired in 2001 as a vice president in bank marketing. Sandra was highly regarded by her co-workers, clients and community. She was a member of various civic and charitable organizations including United Way and The Pilot Club of Longview, having served as president 1982-1983.
She was a longtime member of Greggton First Baptist Church and later joined Longview Christian Church. She loved her bible study group when they met at various members homes for food and fellowship.
She is survived by daughter, Dawn Miller, of Longview, son Keith and his wife Chyrisse Miller of Austin, TX, daughter Susan and her husband Michael Riley of Graham, TX, and seven grandchildren Grant, Matthew, and Caroline Miller of Austin, TX and Adyson, Ally, Alyssa, Anna Kate of Graham, TX. She is also survived by her treasured sister, Helen Rose Carlisle of Longview and many other family members she dearly loved. Sandra was preceded in death by husband Gilbert, her parents, four brothers, Jewel, Bill, Lawrence, and Howard Kane and one sister, LaVerne Barnes.
Keith and Susan want to share their deepest gratitude to their sister, Dawn, for providing loving care and support of their mother for many years. The family would like to extend their appreciation to special family caregivers, brother-in-law Lynn Mitchell, and niece Cynthia Richey as well as new friend Betty Holcomb.
Memorials can be made to a church or charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Services will be held Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
