Sandra Ready Godwin's Obituary
August 19th 4:30 p.m. Sandra Ready Godwin was greeted and welcomed in at the Gates of Heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and the love of her life, John. We are fairly sure that upon entrance, she implemented a new organizational chart with expectations in place, job descriptions and duties delegated, and reporting times issued.
Sandra graced earth on November 1st, 1938 in Longview and forever changed the lives of her parents, Charles Herbert Ready and Violet Southerland Ready. Not only was she loved and adored by her parents, sister, Charline immediately accepted the role of "Big Sister and Protector". Growing up in Hallsville, Texas, Sandra made many friends that she shared a lifetime of joy, laughter, antics, tears, endeavors and memories. Graduating from Hallsville High School in 1957, she went to Texas A&M, Commerce, graduating in 1961. While at college she met, fell in love with and married John Harrison Godwin. They married on August 26th, 1960, later moved to Hallsville to begin new adventures together and loving one another for 59 years. John left this earthly life for Heaven in 2019 and there waited patiently for Sandra to wrap up her earthly duties and join him in Heaven to never again be separated from one another.
Sandra enjoyed various occupations, among them, working beside John at the Exxon station they owned and operated in Hallsville, being an educator for many years at Hallsville High School, owner/operator (with her dear friend Anne Bufkin) and Administrator of Texas Home Health in Longview, Carthage and Marshall for over 25 years. As much as she enjoyed all of her occupational experiences, the role she reveled in the most was that of "Mom" to Darla Dee. The depth of her love for Darla Dee was all encompassing and knew NO boundaries. She loved and adored her two grandsons and felt so blessed to watch them grow into productive, thriving adults, marry and become fathers to 2 precious great-grandsons. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends. Nothing was more important to Sandra than family and friends.
Her capacity to love unconditionally only grew through the years. Her quick wit, bright & beautiful smile, stellar business acumen faded in comparison to her ability to love.
Matthew 22 vs 37-38 tells us: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment" Matthew 22 vs 39 "And the second is, Love your neighbor as yourself “Sandra was a great example of living both these scriptures.
Sandra is survived by: Daughter Darla Dee Denby, husband Kevin. Grandchildren: Dalton Jay Brister, wife Christina, Brandon Shay Brister, wife Brittni, Eric Clayton Denby and Maci Lane Denby. Great-Grandson's: Carter Shay Brister (Dalton & Christina, parents) and Harrison Gene Brister (Brandon and Brittni, parents)
Life-long childhood friends: Judy Thomas Jones and Gaylon Page Muehleisen.
Sandra was a lifetime member of Hallsville United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful doctors, caregivers, extended family and many, many friends for their prayers, thoughts and love during this difficult time.
