Samuel Allen Haggard's Obituary
Graveside services for Samuel Allen Haggard, 94, of Longview
will be 11 AM Monday, October 7, 2002 in Memory Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. His nephew, Reverend Marion Clarkson of Medford, Oregon, will conduct services. Mr. Haggard died at his home Thursday, October 3.
Mr. Haggard was born July 23, 1908 in Keller, Oklahoma. He moved with his family to Longview in 1931, where he resided until
his death. He married Fay Walker on October 18, 1936; she preceded
him in death in January of 2000.
As a surveyor, Mr. Haggard participated in many interesting projects throughout the United States, surveying major oil and gas pipelines and transportation systems vital to our armed services in the 30?s and 40?s. He was a member of the surveying team for Ft. Hood in Killeen, TX. He also participated in construction of several Water Districts
throughout northeast Texas, as well as hundreds of miles of various city water and sewage systems. He helped in surveying Ferrell Dam and Reservoir
at Lake of the Pines, as well as Tejas Village Resort there. At the time of his retirement in 1990, he was a projects representative for KSA
Engineering in Longview. Other than his work-related accomplishments, he was proud of overseeing construction of the Masonic Lodge on Center Street in Longview in the early 50?s.
He was a member of the Longview Masonic Lodge #404 and received his
50 years membership pin in 1995. He served as Master of the Lodge, was a Past Master, as well as a 32nd Degree Mason. As a Mason, he was honored with the Golden Trowel, the highest award given in Masonry.
He was also a member of the Sharon Temple Shrine of Tyler and Waco
Scottish Rite.
Mr. Haggard was a lover of the outdoors, and particularly relished in
activities with his four grandsons until health prevented him from doing so.
Surviving include his daughter Patricia and her husband, Dennis J. "Spike" Bowles, S r. of Longview; four grandsons and their wives, Denny and Kay Bowles, Brad and Allison Bowles, Patrick and Crystal Bowles, Jeffrey and
Megan Bowles; great grandsons, Tripp and Camden Bowles; granddaughter, Rachel Hunt; sister-in-law, Edith Williams and her husband Lewis, all of Longview.
He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Haggard was blessed with an incredible team of devoted caregivers. Special thanks are extended to Angie Boykin, Dorothea Wamsley, Linda Robertson; to the nurses and staff of Hospice Longview, Inc. , especially Kay Roberts, Barbara Ryder and Gloria Johnson; and to caregivers and staff of Home Care Management Services, especially Mary Welton and Donna LaRocque.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM today, October 6 at the funeral home.
