Sammy Joe Trice's Obituary
Longview – Sammy Joe Trice, 91 of Longview, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025, in Gilmer, Texas. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 4 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. Services will be Wednesday, February 5, 10 a.m. at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel. A private graveside service will be held for the family at Rosewood Park Cemetery.
Sammy was born on August 10, 1933, in Hallsville, Texas to Eddie and Elza Ruth Trice. He was married to Betty Jane Hardin for 69 years, until her passing in 2022. They had two sons, Joe Edd Trice and Jerry Dale Trice.
Sammy was a veteran of the National Guard and of the United States Navy serving proudly at the Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Oahu, Hawaii from 1956 to 1957. He was also a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge. His career as a craftsman spanned more than forty years and included positions in steel mills and the Longview brewery where he retired in 1992. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and cooking. But it was his time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren that brought him the greatest joy.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Wayne Robinson, Vivian “Diddy” Skinner, Lottie Ann McCleney, and brother Charles Edward “Chili” Trice. He is survived by his sons, Joe Trice and wife Pam of Montgomery, Texas, Jerry Trice of Longview, grandchildren Amber Trice Morgan and husband Chris of Humble, Texas, Joseph Trice of Pasadena, Texas, and Jake Trice of Montgomery, Texas; great grandchildren, Emily Fiedler, Jackson Lucas, Julie Lucas, Scarlett Trice, Jane Trice, Judah Trice, and Amethy Trice; extended family James Lucas of Waco, Texas, Andrea Plata Trice of LaPorte, Texas and Lauren Trice of Spring, Texas.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roberto Escalante, Matt McCLeney, Jerry Seahorn, David Skinner, David Trice, and Joey Parr.
