Ruth Hughes Brown's Obituary
Graveside services for Ruth Hughes Brown, 97, of Longview will be held at Memory Park on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. Mrs. Brown passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 in Longview.
Mrs. Brown was born in Odem, Texas to C.A. and Bessie Hughes on September 20, 1915. She was the second oldest of 9 children. She was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and "Meme." She attended SWT University in San Marcos. She worked at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi during WWII. After the war she married the love of her life Walter Keith Brown who was serving in WWII. They wrote each other every day. They married two weeks after he came home from the war on October 25, 1945 in Robstown, TX. She was a volunteer for many years at the Carthage Nursing Home. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage, member of S.K.I.T., Lydia SS Class, Silvertones and B.A.L.L. Club. She loved to travel to all the states, many foreign countries with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sisters; five brothers and one great great grandson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lana and Joe Caver; son and daughter-in-law Walter Keith, Jr. and Joan Brown; special son Tommy Jackson; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; brother Clarence Hughes; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
