Ruth Covey's Obituary
Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ruth Covey, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, leaving a legacy of faith and love. A devoted Christian and member of the Longview Church of Christ, whose faith was evidenced through her many works of love and care towards others.
Ruth was born on January 27, 1930, in Obion, Tennessee, to Claude and Lillian Abbott. Upon graduating from high school, she married Leonard Covey May12, 1947. They shared 68 wonderful years together before his passing in 2015. She was devoted to her family – a nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother – as well as to her many friends.
While raising her family, Ruth completed her studies at the University of Tennessee to become a registered nurse. She was dedicated to her profession and service to her community.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Ann Carney.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Cathy Smallwood and husband Clifton, and son David Covey; grandchildren, Carrie Spaulding and husband Brandon, and Claire Smallwood; and great granddaughter Catherine Spaulding; and many beloved friends.
She will be remembered always by the care she showed others, the love she distributed freely, and her strong faith that helped to carve her path.
The family wishes to thank the employees of Heartis Assisted Living facility and Bespoke Hospice for their kind and tender care of Ruth.
In addition, we are so appreciative to our very special caregiver Raye Vestal. Thank you to good friends who faithfully visited her.
