Ruby Whitten Yates
Ruby Whitten Yates was born in Valliant, Oklahoma Nov. 9, 1922. She passed away June 12th 2009 at Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House at the age of 86. In 1941 she married George Sinclair Yates of Marshall. George was killed in action during WWII at San Pietro, Italy in Dec. Of 1943. They had one daughter, Patty, who has always been the focus of her mother's life. Ruby worked for Louis Williams & Associates in Marshall for 55 years, reluctantly retiring at the age of 76 after moving to Longview to be near her family. Ruby is survived by; her daughter, Patty and husband Dee Shappell of Longview; grandsons Trace Shappell and his wife Lea of Longview, Michael Shappell and Susan Stites ; two beloved great-grandchildren, Whitten and Haden Shappell; loving sister-in-law Juanita Yates Cornelsen; sister, Pauline and husband Robert Preston of Conroe, Tx; along with several nieces and nephews; many caring friends, especially Peggy Strohe of Jefferson.
Special thanks go to the staff and friends at Hawkins Creek Assisted Living, where Ruby lived for the past two years, Dr. Kathleen Weindorf, and the compassionate staff at Margaret's House.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church Longview, Beacan Hospice at Margaret's House or the charity of your choice.
Funeral service will be Monday June 15th at 10 o'clock at Trinity Episcopal Church Longview with Father Kevin Wittmayer presiding. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Entombment will be in the Rosewood Park Mausoleum under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
