Funeral services for Ruby Ott, 82, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2008 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Reverend Scott Schulik and Dr. Greg Zackary officiating. Burial will be in Osyka Cemetery in Osyka, MS at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, under the direction of Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb, MS. She passed away Wednesday, April 30, in Jacksonville, TX.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ott was born January 11, 1926 in Pampa, TX to William Earl and Celia Arvilla Minatre and moved to Longview in 1986. She was a retired employee of the federal government, part of which was served in Washington, DC. She was an avid quilter, and belonged to the Piney Woods Quilters Association, Piece Makers Quilt Guild in Marshall and the Country Patches Quilt Guild. Mrs. Ott was a charter member of the Sage Society Book Club and a lifetime member of the Longview Newcomers Club. She was a volunteer and trainer for the American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery Program for 25 years. She was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ott was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Harry Ott in 1971 and her parents.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda Ott Compton and husband Jerry of Jacksonville, TX; niece Jan Mays of Irving; nephews, Gary Love and David Armstrong of Dallas and several other nieces, nephews and other relatives.
