Roy A.Mundt's Obituary
Graveside services for Roy A. Mundt, 86, who died Sunday, August 24, 2014 in his home in Longview, will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 3:00pm at Rosewood Park. Officiating will be Mitch Kuhn. Burial will be held at Rosewood Park Cemetery of Longview.
Mundt was born February 26, 1928 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Arthur R. and Pearlie Mae Mundt. He attended Pleasant Valley and Iowa Park Schools and lived in Wichita County until 1967.
After High School, he joined the U. S. Navy and proudly served his Country on board the heavy cruiser USS Fall River in Japan and other ports in the Pacific in 1946. He was part of Operation Crossroads and was on Bikini Island during the atomic bomb testing. In 1947 he was honorably discharged, receiving a Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and one star.
He lived in Longview area since 1967 and was retired after having worked in the field of Commercial Building Maintenance, including Heating, Ventilation, and Air-conditioning, after having worked 16 years at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas; then 10 years at Ambassador College in Big Sandy, Texas; then 10 years at First Baptist Church in Longview, Texas.
He also taught HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning) at Kilgore College and Tyler Junior College.
He was a member of the Naval Atomic Association of Veterans.
He married Annelle Short April 30, 1949 in Iowa Park, Texas.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Bernice Watson and a brother, David H. Mundt
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Craig Wayne and wife Janice of Mineola, David Roy and Ellen of Longview; two daughters, Jill Wells and Judy Mundt, both of Longview; two brothers, Paul Ray of Wichita Falls and Donald of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Marie Hughes of Kilgore, Texas and Carley Turnbow of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, David Wayne Mundt of Mineola, Brent Holcomb of Dallas, Kevin Holcomb of Quitman, Heather Colleen Pilcher of Austin, Angel Marie Fields of Austin and four great-grandchildren, Daniel Fields of Austin, Azriel Pilcher, Ava Pilcher and Alli Pilcher of Justin, Texas.
