Roy Lynn Pace's Obituary
Roy Lynn Pace was born on April 2, 1932 to Bird Caroline and Roy Lester Pace in Temple, Texas. He was raised in Temple and graduated high school from Temple High School in 1950. He was an all-around star athlete in football, basketball and track. He went on to attend and play football at Southern Methodist University and was a long time standing member of the SMU Mustang?s Letterman Association.
He was married to Johnnie Lou Klein the love of his life, for 56 years and raised five children. He was a salesman by trade and sold insurance for many years before retiring in 1992 after the tragic loss of two of his children. He loved football, playing golf, visiting friends, loved a good laugh and taking his grandkids around town. He was a character that charmed all he met and never met a stranger. He was loved by all.
Mr. Pace was a member of St. Anthony?s Catholic Church in Longview. He was preceded in death by his two precious children, Lyne Elaine Pace and John Wesley Pace.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Johnnie Lou Pace; daughter, Tara Pace Wilbanks and her husband John of Longview; son, Mark and wife Teri Pace of Waco; and daughter, Raye and husband Gerald Cupps of Mansfield.
Mr. Pace is also survived by eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Pace will be especially missed by his beloved grandson Brady Lyne Wilbanks who was the light of his life who he called his little ?Bubba?. He also treasured his precious Kaylie Elaine, John Carter and Harper Elizabeth Wilbanks who were with him nearly every day the last several years.
A rosary will be recited for Roy Pace, 78, of Longview at 10 AM Saturday, November 13, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held following the rosary. Burial will follow in Memory Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Friday, November 12, 2010 at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rodney Sloan and his nurse, Cydnie Adams; the entire staff of Summer Meadows Nursing Home, the nurses and doctors who cared for him these last several weeks at Good Shepherd Medical Center, and the staff of Hearts Way Hospice and to all that took great patience and care of him in his courageous battle with Alzheimer?s.
