Roy E. Hopkins' Obituary
Graveside services for Roy E. Hopkins, 92, of Longview will be held at 2 PM Monday, July 9, 2012 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Longview. Mr. Hopkins passed away Tuesday afternoon in Longview. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Hopkins was born on July 1, 1920 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Roy and Ethel Hopkins. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1942-1947. He was stationed at Brimmerton Naval Yard. Mr. Hopkins owned and operated Hopkins Imported Auto Parts in Longview for many years and he was very active in the Sports Car Club of America having served with both regional and national titles. He was also a 65 year Master Mason. Roy was a charter member of the Pine Tree Lodge #1396, and a charter member of the Sharon Shrine Temple. He loved serving others in various other organizations including the American Legion and Scottish Rite. Mr. Hopkins was also a member of Greggton First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marie P. Hopkins; and his granddaughter, Susan Gann Flatt.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Nita Hopkins; granddaughters and their husbands, Tresia and Mark Bennett, Wendy and Max Clement, and Cindy and Venton McFadden; his grandson, Michael Hopkins and his wife Bambi; 11 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
