Roy Carlyle Anderson's Obituary
Roy Carlyle Anderson passed peacefully after an extended illness at his home in Longview, Texas, in the early morning on Thursday, April 9, 2015. He was 83 years old. Roy and his family had the gift of spending his last days together; the home filled with his family, music and the Lord’s blessings.
Roy was born September 23, 1931, in Eastland, Texas, to Carlyle L. and Effie Glenn Anderson. He graduated from Longview High School and received his MBA from North Texas State University in 1953. Roy served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1955. He retired from Duff Norton Corp. after a successful career in sales. He was most recently a member of the Alpine Church of Christ in Longview, and a former member of Klein United Methodist Church in Spring, Texas. He was a devoted volunteer with Habitat For Humanity.
Roy never knew a stranger. He loved tinkering and fixing anything that needed repair and of course never threw anything away that might be re-purposed. His favorite room in the house held his workbench and gardening tools. He enjoyed restoring beautiful antiques, huge fires, hunting, fishing and playing cards with his friends. He liked beginning any good meal with a strong prayer and ending it with a big bowl of Blue Bell ice cream!
Roy was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Ann Walters of Paris, Texas, until her death in 2001, and his sister Kathleen Anderson Deming of Houston, Texas, formerly of Longview.
Roy was blessed with a second love and is survived by Peggy Boyland Anderson, his wife of 12 years. He is also survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Lee and Bill Wickman of Knoxville, Tennessee, and their children, Matthew, Lindsay and Sarah, who all had a very special place in Roy’s heart. He was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Salter Emil Wickman, and Salter’s mother, Melissa Ann Carroll. Survivors also include his brother Glenn Anderson and his wife, Becky, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Peggy’s children, Rex Boyland, Laurie McGovern, Kurt Boyland and Sharon Young and their families. Roy will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love him.
Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. followed by the service at 12:00 p.m., both at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas on Saturday, April 11, 2015. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers of Life Care Hospice and Visiting Angels.
In lieu of flowers, Roy requested that donations be made to Smile Train at smiletrain.org or by mail, Smile Train, P. O. Box 96231, Washington, D.C., 20090-6231. A beautiful smile is a precious gift.
