Rose Yowell's Obituary
Rose Ellen Gunter Yowell passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday June 7, 2014. Her daughter Paula Yowell and her grandson Josh Posey were by her side.
Rose was born in Antlers, Oklahoma to Myrtle and Simeon Asberry Gunter on May 25, 1923. She was the third of their four daughters and she lived her childhood years with her family working hard farming cotton as well as other crops. She and her sisters all received their primary and secondary educations in a one-room school house several walkable miles from their home. Although the times were poor and hard, their mother gave them an incredible base of strength and determination and their father taught them to value an education. Her sisters helped her toward college and work in Tulsa Oklahoma. It was there she caught the eye of the love of her life Paul Edward Yowell. After only 6 months he knew she was the one for him. They were married on June 16, 1945 and remained thus until his passing in 2009.
Rose moved with Paul to East Texas in 1951. They were first in the Kilgore Area but moved to Greggton, Texas in 1956. Rose attended, taught Sunday school, and shared her famous chocolate cake and fried chicken with the congregation of the Greggton Methodist Church on and off for over 20 years. She was a member of United Methodist Church for the remainder of her life. She was always an available volunteer serving in the P.T.A. during the 23 years her three children attended Pine Tree I.S.D. She also served as a volunteer at the East Texas Treatment Center and on the Gregg County Child Welfare Board. She is a Paul Harris Fellow. She mothered no less than five Rotary exchange students.
During their “golden years” on an acreage in Liberty City as well as the decade spent in the Woodlands development in Longview, she enjoyed and taught her grandchildren to enjoy gardening and identifying the many birds which came to feed at her home. She loved cooking and developed many recipes that friends and family still enjoy as Rose's specialties. She taught her children what determination meant= that they could achieve anything they could dream as long as they were determined enough. She taught them that tenacity and hard work pay off. She loved them and believed in them and supported them no matter what the challenge they presented. She devoted her entire life to her children and grandchildren.
She was a simple, sincere, honest and kind person. One could not hope for a better nor more loyal friend, neighbor or Mother. She will be missed.
She is survived by her two sisters, Saxon Ramsey and Goldie Kuntz, her three children, David Yowell, Mary Ellen Watts, and Paula Yowell. Her six grandchildren and her six great-grandchildren.
The family wants to thank all of her caregivers and doctors over the last five year for the kindness and concern they had for her.
Graveside services will be 2 PM Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Roy James officiating under direction of Rader Funeral Home.
