Roger Mack Hendricks' Obituary
Roger Mack Hendricks, 89, of Leander, TX passed from this life on February 2, 2025, in Round Rock, TX. He was born in Spiro, OK on September 30, 1935, to Harold and Nola Hendricks. Growing up, he was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed playing a variety of sports, including baseball, softball, and basketball.
Roger attended Freed-Hardman College in Henderson, TN where he met a raven haired beauty named Joan who would soon become the love of his life. They were married on December 23, 1954, and proceeded to live out the "American Dream" side by side for the next 70 years. Rogers love for Joan was true and unfaltering, and they cherished one another until the end. Together, they raised four beautiful children, Dale, Timothy, Donna, and Anita. He was also blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his role as "Grandaddy" and remained active and present in their lives in every way he could.
Roger was a gospel preacher for over 55 years. He served as a local evangelist with churches of Christ in North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Colorado, and Texas. In recent years, he worked with and attended Northwest Church of Christ in Austin, TX. He preached thousands of sermons, in hundreds of churches all over the U.S. and in numerous foreign countries, including Mexico, England, and Canada.
He loved the study and teach the Bible and was passionate in his search for God's truth. His love for the Lord was present in all that he did, from raising his family to blessing the family dinners, he never failed to thank God for his blessings. He was and remains dearly beloved by both his physical and spiritual family. He leaves behind a legacy of discipleship, service, diligence, love, and professionalism.
In his spare time, Roger enjoyed many hobbies, including playing sports, photography, and traveling, visiting all but one of the 50 states. He also loved hunting and fishing and often said that some of his most cherished memories were hunting and fishing with his boys. he was proud to know that this tradition was passed on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who have also grown up in the woods with their fathers, learning to love nature as much as he did.
Roger was a man who led a life of pious virtue, respect, and giving. But above all these things, he led a life full of love. He found his true joy in freely giving a receiving love. He knew that love was not something to be held in reserve, but something to be spread and experienced in abundance. He loved his John Wayne movies, cookies, Coca-Cola, sports, camping, and traveling. he loved meeting new people, visitors, and family get-togethers. H loved his church members. He loved his family. He loved his children. He loved his wife. He loved God. He just loved and was loved in return.
In addition to his parents, Roger is proceeded in death by his sister, Sue Collins, his wife, Joan C. Hendricks, a daughter-in-law, Anna-Kay Hendricks, and a grandson, Cary Hendricks. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Dale and Judy Hendricks, Timothy Hendricks, Donna and Stewart Coffman, and Anita; his grandchildren and their spouses: Chad and Laurie Hendricks, Holly and Christopher Peters, Lacey and Zack Fisk, Cassidy Coffman, and Caleb Coffman; and his great-grandchildren: Ryan Hendricks, Matthew Hendricks, Braddock Peters, Anabelle Fisk and Hailey Fisk.
A graveside service for Roger will be held at Rosewood Park Mausoleum on Saturday, February 15 at 2pm.
