In 1996, Rod gave his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and went back to school, earning a Masters in Christian Leadership from Criswell College in 1998, followed by a Masters of Divinity at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2001.
Rod was always active, with interests in dove hunting, golf and fast cars, especially Mustangs. He and Jon earned their 1st Degree Black Belts in Street Karate together when Rod was 50 years old. He was happiest though, serving his Lord.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, brother Keith Wesley Allen and father in law James Loyd Venable, who he loved and who loved him. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 37 years, Cindy Allen, of Longview, son Jonathan, of Seguin, sister Teresa Robertson, of Las Vegas, Nevada, mother in law Bonnie Venable, of Longview, sister in law Sharon McCann and her husband Jim, sister in law Rhonda Huther and her husband Bruce, nephews Benjamin Whisenhunt and his wife Bernadette, of Las Vegas, Jason McCann and his wife Tamara, of Kilgore, Jeff McCann and his wife Wendi, of Sherman, and Jarrod Huther, and his great nieces, who he loved very much, along with extended family members.
