Robert Wayne Wooley Sr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for Robert Wayne Wooley, Sr., 69, of Henderson were held at 10am on Monday July 2, 2018 at Rader Funeral Home in Henderson with Brother Jack Maddox officiating. A visitation was held the hour preceding the services. Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, services presided by Brother John Gradberg.
Wayne, as he was known to most, passed away unexpectedly in Tyler on June 28, 2018. He was born on May 11, 1949 to the late J.B. Wooley and Gerlene (Peavy) Wooley in Henderson, where he spent most of his life.
Wayne served as a police officer in Overton, Atlanta, Jefferson and Marion County. He had 22 cumulative years in Law Enforcement. At Marion County, he achieved the rank of Captain.
He became Chief of Police in Jefferson and also served as a Criminal Investigator for the Marion County DA Office. His first wife, and mother to his two sons, who preceded him in death, was also in law enforcement. Together they were the first husband/wife duo to go through the East Texas Police Academy.
He was also a Master Welder, maker of many BBQ pits and was also a Freemason. Wayne was near retiring as a private security guard from the past 3 decades.
Wayne was no stranger to hard work or standing up for what was right. He loved hunting, fishing, cared for many horses and had a love of John Wayne. Above all, he loved God and family. He taught by example in his own quiet way. Always had a little smile and twinkle in his eye for his loved ones.
Wayne was blessed with having Judy (Bright) Wooley as his wife and companion until her passing in 1999. They too, were also companions in Law Enforcement. He missed her dearly.
Survivors include his son, Robert Wayne Wooley, Jr., “Rob” and his wife, Tracy (Crawford) of Henderson; his son, Jason Brady Wooley and his wife, Naomi (Mulcady) of New London; his grandchildren Jeffery, Justin, Taylor, and Cheyenne, & Nicole, April, Rebekah, Matthew, Molly and Jay, & Kaycee. He had eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Pat and her husband Bobby Easter, their children Shannon and Sharon along with nieces, nephews, cousins and other beloved family and friends.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Wooley, Justin Wooley, Taylor Wooley, Matthew Wooley, Shannon Easter and Larry Crawford.
The family thanks all those who sent prayers, well wishes and condolences at this difficult time.
