Memorial services for Robert Riley Elswick, 89, of Marshall will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Reverend Kevin Whittmayer officiating. Interment will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service.
Mr. Elswick was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor who had been active in the Pearl Harbor Survivor's Association. He was a retired dental laboratory technician who had worked most of his career in Longview and the Kansas City, Kansas areas.
He was born December 11, 1918, in Divernon, Ill. to Clifford V. and Minta Commons Elswick. He died Sunday, September 28, 2008, at a Marshall hospital. Mr. Elswick is a graduate of Divernon, Ill. high school and attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas after World War II.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Nancy Elswick of Marshall; a sister, Bertha Todd of Beaverton, Oregon; a grandson, M. Scott Elswick and his wife Mandy, of Longview; a granddaughter, Della Michele Elswick and a future grandson-in-law, Ashwin Mungur, both of Frisco; two great grandchildren, Riley Matthew Elswick and Maggie Jean Elswick, both of Longview; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Elswick was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford V. and Minta Commons Elswick; his wife, Helen Virginia Elswick; two sisters, Virginia Duncan and Marjorie J. Elswick; a brother, Vernon Elswick; and a grandson, Matthew David Elswick.
