Dr. Robert E. Pope's Obituary
Funeral services for Dr Robert Eugene Pope will be held at Rosewood Park Mausoleum Chapel on Saturday October 31, 2015 at 10:00 am with the Dr. Rick Webb officiating under the direction of Rader Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park.
Robert was born October 21, 1927 in Bolivar Missouri to the late Daisy and Fred Pope. He was drafted into the US Army in 1946 and served a year in Korea in the Army of occupation. After the war, he enrolled in college at the University of Missouri where he obtained a BS in Agriculture and a Doctor of Veterinary medicine.
He married Betty Pace on April 16, 1954 in Washington Missouri and was commissioned in the US Air Force in 1955. While in the Air Force, he attended The University of California at Berkley where he received his master’s degree in Public Health. While in the Air Force, he and his family lived in various countries such as Japan and Germany, where he was the Air Force Veterinarian, taking care of military guard dogs and military staff pets. After spending 22 years in the Air Force he retired and moved to Richmond Texas where he started a career working for the Texas Department of Health as a public health veterinarian and the South East Texas Director of Zoonosis control. He retired after 11 years and made his home in New Braunfels, Texas where he enjoyed hunting in the Texas Hill Country and spending time on the Guadalupe River with his family. Robert and Betty moved to the Longview area in 2001 to be near family.
Robert loved spending time with his family and treasured his three children and five grandchildren. In his last few years he resided at Buckner Westminster Place where he looked forward to his weekly bridge games and spending time with his friends and neighbors.
Dr Pope was preceded in death by his parents, Daisy and Fred Pope and his wife Betty. He is survived by his three children: Mary Woods and husband Ted; Tom Pope and wife Mary Ann; and Bill Pope and wife Susan. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ava Pope, Emma Pope, Reilly Pope, Danny Pope, and Alex Pope. Other survivors include brother and sister in law, Louis and Nancy Wright and niece Chris Stuart.

The family give special thanks to the staff at Buckner Westminster Place and the nurses and staff that cared for Dr Pope while at Good Shepherd Medical Center.
