I've thought a great deal about Robert lately. My wife and I just celebrated our one-year anniversary this past Memorial Day weekend which was the last time I saw my good friend. He was such a larger-than-life presence at our reception and made so many people laugh with his jovial spirit-- and his dog running around the wedding venue / farm like crazy. He crashed that night in his truck right there on the gravel farm road rather than drive back to Austin. My wife and I looked out from our honeymoon suite round about midnight and sure enough, she was like "who on Earth is still here at this hour?!" I said that's just Texas Throb all cozied up in his truck with his dog, just as it should be. When we emerged from our cabin the next morning he was gone much to my dismay. I had very much wanted to chat with him before we took off to California for our honeymoon.
Robert, I miss you very much and think of you often. I really valued our friendship the world lost a great man that day last September. We won't ever get to kick it together in Colorado like we talked about-- but one day I look forward to see you again in a place with no struggles or pain. I believe you're already there, my friend.
