Robert Mancil's Obituary
Robert Mancil, 96, of Longview and Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on March 14, 2015. Robert was born in Pitkin, Louisiana, on February 22, 1919, to James Edward Mancil and Virginia West Mancil.
In 1945, he married Pearl McDaniel, the love of his life, and together they had a beautiful daughter, Sue.
Robert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, from 1942 to 1945, as a Radio Operator and Technical Sergeant in the First Cavalry Division Artillery. He received his degree from LeTourneau University in 1951. He then worked as a machinist at Skelly Oil Company for 12 years and Marathon LeTourneau for 25 years.
Robert's greatest achievements included his acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and a lifetime dedicated to His teachings; 69 years of a wonderful marriage to Pearl; and his daughter, Sue Mancil Watkins.
He was a dedicated member of Valley View Baptist Church in Longview, Texas, for 67 years. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and member of the choir for more than 60 of those years.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother and father; and his eight brothers and sisters, Horace Mancil, Isaac Mancil, Marilla Mancil Willis, Fannie Mancil Perkins, Lottie Mancil Thompson, James Millard Mancil, Ervin Jay Mancil, and Muriel Leo Mancil. He is survived by his wife, Pearl; his daughter, Sue Mancil Watkins, and her husband, Steven J. Watkins; his grandchildren Angie Watkins Buck, and her husband Shane Buck, Kate Elizabeth Watkins, and Emily Anne Watkins; his great-grandchildren Garrett Steven Buck and Ava Chrisanne Buck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 17, from 6-8 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, at 2 p.m. at Valley View Baptist Church, followed by a burial service at Memory Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made in Robert's name to Valley View Baptist Church, 1602 Alpine Rd., Longview, Texas 75601.
