Robert "Bob" H. Friedel, Jr.
Robert H. Friedel, Jr., 80, passed away Nov. 27, 2011. He was born in Hillside, NJ. He graduated from Teaneck High School in Teaneck, NJ; then attended Victoria Jr. College, Victoria, TX on a football scholarship where he met his future wife, Mary Edgar. He entered the U. S. Army at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX for 2 years as a Physical Training Instructor and acting Supply Sergeant. He married in 1953 and completed his Army service and moved with wife, Mary, to Kingsville, TX where he graduated from Texas
A & I with a Bachelor degree for Industrial Engineering. He then went to work for Union Carbide Corp. At Seadrift, TX living in Victoria, TX until he was transferred to Charleston, WV. They relocated to Uvalde, TX working at White's Mines and retired as Plant Manager for Lithcote Company in Longview, TX. He and Mary moved to Cedar Creek Lake area for 15 years where they enjoyed their lake view, golfing, and fishing before moving back to Longview.
Bob was active in the First United Methodist Church and the Newnham Sunday School class. He loved the New York Yankee baseball team and the Dallas Cowboys. He always looked forward to his family visits and family reunions. He helped coach Little League football and baseball in Victoria, TX along with being a Boy Scout leader.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Florence and Dorothy, his identical twin brother, Ted, and his son, Robert H. Friedel, III. He is survived by his wife, Mary Edgar Friedel of 58 years, his daughter, Lizanne and her husband, Johnny Allen of Mansfield, TX, daughter, Jeannie Gesford of Longview, daughter-in-law Jana Friedel of Longview, his sister Betty Jane Evans of Mt. Olive, AL, grandchildren Stephanie and Brian Allen, Katie, Laura, and Leanna Gesford, 2 great grandchildren, Zane and Mason Allen, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at First United Methodist Church of Longview at 2:00 P.M. On Wednesday, November 30, with Rev. Mike Schutz and Rev. Jack Matkin officiating. Visitation will be at Rader Funeral Home in Longview from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. On Tuesday, November 29. Interment will be in Rio Frio, TX at the Rio Frio Cemetery on Saturday, December 3. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Newnham Sunday School class, First United Methodist Church of Longview, or the charity of your choice.
