Robert F. Hallum's Obituary
Graveside services for Robert F. Hallum, 83, of Longview, will be 1 PM Friday at Memory Park Cemetery with Reverend Bill Cunningham officiating. Rader Funeral Home, Longview, in charge of services.
Mr. Hallum died Thursday evening at his residence.
A native of Tehuacana, Limestone County, Texas, his was born August 1, 1921 to Otto Dixon and Emma Ruth Moody Hallum. Mr. Hallum moved to Longview in 1931 when his father went to work for a Longview bank. He attended Longview schools and graduated with the Class of 1939 from Longview High School. He also attended Schriener Military School, now Schriener University, and Kilgore College. Mr Hallum was a retired self employed accountant. He served his country during World War II with the US Marines in the South Pacific.
Mr. Hallum was a member of the Longview Masonic Lodge #404, was a 32rd degree Mason of the Waco Scottish Rite bodies and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Longview.
He was known by his family and friends for his quiet and loving manner. He considered his children his greatest accomplishment. He grew up enjoying deer hunting with his father and continued with his son Mike. Some of his happiest moments were on a deer lease with his family.
His was preceded in death his parents, his brothers: O. Darwin Hallum, Edward Dean Hallum and his sister, Christine Hallum Reynolds.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather his is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marguerite Patterson Hallum, whom he married on March 22, 1946 after returning from World War II; daughter and son in law: Patricia and Edward Ed Steele of Longview; son and daughter in law: R. Michael and Shelley Hallum of Marshall, grandchildren: Kristy L. Davis and husband Joey of Longview, Kourtney Morris of Longview, Jantzen, Jordan and Jaycee Hallum of Marshall; step granddaughter: Melissa Russell and husband Bill of Waco; great granddaughter: Trinty Davis of Longview; great grandson: Tristan Davis of Longview; Step great grandchildren Ethan and Ryan Russell of Waco.
The family request in lieu of flowers memorials be made to a charity of their choice, First United Methodist Church, Longview or Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX 75219 or Greater Hospice of Longview.
