Graveside services for Robert E. ?Bob? Vorhies, 83, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Smyrna Cemetery in Harleton, Texas with the Reverend Margaret Carrell officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. He passed away Sunday, October 16, in a Longview hospital.
Mr. Vorhies was born February 16, 1922 in Ft. Worth to Robert and Ruth Paine Vorhies. He moved to Longview in January 2005 from Ft. Worth. He was a former maintenance employee of Swift Packing Co. in Ft. Worth for 23 years, and was a self employed plumber. Mr. Vorhies was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. post 4477 in Dallas and the American Legion post 569 in Ft. Worth. He served 5 years in the U. S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific.
Mr. Vorhies was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah Campbell Floren; sister, Dorothy Burt; and brothers, Dan and Benny Vorhies;
He is survived by his companion, Mildred Pruitt of Longview; sisters, Billie Jean Crites and Mary Lou Shockley, both of Ft. Worth; brother, Larry Vorhies of Ft. Worth; step-daughter, Hilda Baucum of Ft. Worth; 4 step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
