Robert E. Smith's Obituary
Robert E. "Bobby" Smith
No man I can think of truly exemlifed the spirit of a Texas Aggie better than Robert E. Smith of Orange, Texas. Born on September 16, 1948, Bobby was the son of Robert A. and Hazel Smith.
He attended Texas A&M in the fall of 67 and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He was also a chosen member of the Ross Volunteers. In the spring of 71 he graduated with honors with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and upon graduation he began work at Eastman Chemical Company where he continued to work throughout his career.
Throughout the years Bobby developed many life long friendships with his co-workers, his neighbors, and many others throughout the East Texas community.
By far Bobby's greatest passion was golf. I still cannot believe he never hit a hole in one after all those years.
Bobby will be missed by his family. His wife Lynn, who was always by his side, and his three sons, Blaine, Clayton, and Steven, who followed in his father's footsteps and attended Texas A&M.
He is also survived by mother, Hazel Smith of College Station, Texas; brothers, Dr. Gary S. Smith and wife Sally of Southlake, Texas; Dr. Richard A. Smith and wife Leta of College Station, Texas; and his sisters, Janice Kay Adams and husband Bill of Grapevine, Texas; Mary Lynn Smith of Mexia, Texas; he is also survived by his mother-in-law, Martha Servatius of Longview and brother-in-law, Rick Seravatius and wife Sandy of Longview; and by his nieces and nephews, Justin, Carla, Kevin, Meredith, Erin, Kevin, Emily, Lindsay and Haley.
There are no words to say how much he will be missed. He was a special man and he was taken from us far too soon. I Love you dad.
There will be a Rosary service at 1:30 PM Saturday November 13, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2PM. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday November 10, 2010 in Longview.
