Robert C. Wood's Obituary
Robert C. Wood passed away Friday March 8, 2002 at his home. He was born December 17,1909 in Wills Point, Texas to Robert and Louise Wood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, June 27,1996, his parents and four brothers, Van Wood who died on the U.S.S. Arizona at Pearl Harbor, Glen Wood, Raymond Wood, George Wood, and two sisters, Montez Neil and Louise Ogden. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In 1948, Mr. Wood and Troy W. Waggoner, Sr. established Eastex Welding Supply Company. In 1975 the name was changed to Eastex Welding and Industrial Supply Inc. At Mr. Waggoner?s death the firm was joined by Troy Waggoner, Jr. As Vice-President and Mr. Wood as President.
Mr. Wood was employed by Union Carbide Corp. Linde Division in 1929. He worked for that firm?s loca-tions in Dallas, Oklahoma City, Kansas City , Wichita, Kansas and San Antonio. Mr. Wood was a veteran of WW 2 and served in the Air Force. He was a past director of National Welding Association. He was a member of Kiwanis, Cherokee, Pinecrest and Summitt Clubs of Longview. He was also a longtime member of American Welding Society and was a charter member of the Longview Industrial District Inc., formed in 1956 by a group of local businessmen to promote the City of Longview and assist in forming new business ventures for our city. Mr. Wood was of the Baptist Faith.
Funeral services are scheduled for Noon Monday March 11, 2002 at Rosewood Park Mausoleum with Gordon Ogden officiating.
