Robert "Bob" Gerald Berryhill's Obituary
Robert Gerald Berryhill departed this life to meet his Savior in the early morning hours of April 21, 2025. It is not a surprise that he did this quietly, as he would not have wanted to inconvenience the people he loved. Known as Bob to most of his family and friends, he was born December 2, 1945, to parents Rufus Gordon and Maudina Berryhill (later Maudina Moore) in Corsicana, TX. Bob was the middle son in a family of 3 boys, and he was known for his mischievous exploits. He graduated from W.W. Samuel High School in 1964 and eventually went on to obtain more than one associate’s degree from Kilgore College. He joined the Air Force from 1965 to 1969, then went to work for Southwestern Bell (later absorbed by AT&T), where he stayed for his entire career, retiring in 2008. His coworkers were often amazed at how he could make complex tasks look easy. Work was just a small part of his life, however. Bob married Jacquelyn Guinn on September 19, 1969. They were brought together by their shared love of horses. They moved to Longview, TX in 1971 where they built their family home, had 2 children and raised many horses, primarily quarter horses and large breeds. Bob and Jackie taught the College Sunday School class at Calvary Baptist for many years, then fed the college kids after church, giving them a home away from home. He also served as a deacon in the church. He was generous to a fault and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He dearly loved his family, and he was happiest when spending time with all of them together. He was a beloved father and Papa; his love was unconditional. He was a master storyteller, generous gift giver, and unparalleled in hospitality.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Gordon Berryhill; his mother, Maudina Moore; his stepfather, Allen Moore; and his older brother Ronald Berryhill. He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn Guinn Berryhill; his younger brother James (Jeannie) Berryhill; children Kimberly (David) Anderson and David (Eve) Berryhill; grandchildren Ilse (Ricky) Huitema; Ethan, Ivar and Asher Anderson; Benjamin, Elise and Alaina Berryhill; and great-grandchildren Gideon and Celia Huitema. Visitation will take place Friday, April 25th from 6-8 PM at Rader Funeral Home, with a service on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10 AM, also at Rader Funeral Home. His burial will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in Dallas at the DFW National Cemetery.
