Rita Sorey George's Obituary
Funeral services for Rita Beff Sorey George, of Longview, will be at 12pm Monday, December 19, 2011, in the chapel of Rader funeral home of Longview, 1617 Judson Rd. with Rev. Virginia Wall officiating. Burial will be in Memory Park Cemetery in Longview.
Rita was born June 1, 1929 to Robert F. and Mary Warren Sorey in Pineville, Smith Co., Mississippi, and passed away December 15, 2011 in Longview, Texas.
She married Thomas Lamar George November 2, 1950. They moved to Longview in 1952, and joined Wesley-McCabe UMC shortly thereafter. Caring for her home and raising her children, Mary, Bickie, and Thomas, was always a priority. Rita was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone until 1962, when she began her education at Kilgore College. She continued at Stephan F Austin State University, completing her Master's Degree in Education and began a wonderful career in teaching at Pine Tree ISD, that lasted 32 years. In retirement, Rita focused on the care of her husband and grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her husband Thomas Lamar; a daughter and son-in-law Bickie and Paul Bergthold of Longview; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Laurie George of Plano; grandchildren Angela Lichty, Jenny Wren, Aaron Lewark, Clark George and Abigail George; great-grandchildren Jackie and husband Cris Adamson, Shelby Wren, Alexander Lichty, and Bryan Lewis; great-great-grandson Keegan Adamson; brother Robert M. Sorey of Pearl, MS, sister Joyce Dyess of Pineville, MS; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert F. and Mary Sorey; brothers, Doug Sorey and Patrick Henry Sorey; sister, Bessie Gordon; and daughter, Marylena Lewark.
Visitation will be from 4-7pm Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, TX.
