Richard H. Lipscomb's Obituary
He was born January 15, 1928 in Ft. Worth, Texas, where he attended public schools graduating from Pascal High. Dick was awarded all Southwest Conference honors in football at TCU in 1946 and also played at Kilgore Junior College in 1948.
After spending time on active duty with the U.S. Army in 1949, he entered the reserves and was working in the oilfield when called to active duty August 1950 in the Korean War. Dick was assigned to the second ?Indian Head? division achieving the rank of Master SGT. And earning the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with three Stars and the Purple Heart.
Returning to the USA, Dick married Rodean King of Longview on December 11, 1951. They had been married 53 years, 6 months when he lost his courageous battle with cancer.
Upon leaving the service in May 1956, the couple returned to Longview where he worked in local industries until 1965 when he began investing in oil field production.
He was preceded in death by his son, Sidney Ryan Lipscomb in 1957 and 3 brothers, Raymond, Woody, and Bill Lipscomb.
He is survived by his wife, ?Ro?; son, Larry and wife, Greer of Tyler; son, Bill of Springs, Florida; Two grandsons, Jordan Lipscomb of Springs, Florida and Lee Lipscomb of Tyler and one granddaughter, Alex Lipscomb of Tyler. He is also survived by brothers, Col. Robert D. Lipscomb Ret. and Paul M. Lipscomb of Dallas and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was very athletic and taught tennis for many years in Longview. He will be remembered as a good and loving husband, father, and a great grandfather. ?Big Daddy? will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Friday, June 24, 2005 at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Field of Honor at Rosewood Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 23, 2005 from 6 until 8 PM.
