My favorite Uncle passed away a couple of nights ago. Not just my uncle, but one of the best people I have ever known. Not just a great person, but the epitome of what a man was, when I was still just a knot head. A staunch Christian who rose to the rank of full Colonel in the Air Force. Not just a Colonel but Chief and Director of Nuclear Munitions at the Pentagon and SAC. I remember him telling me about flying to Florida to inspect Nuclear B52s at the very time the Bay of Pigs and Cuban missile crisis was happening. That ever nuclear B52 in the world got air for weeks during that time. Telling me about the enormity of operation "Chrome Dome" which started in 1958, which change names, change purposes, change this, change that, but in reality lasted into the early 1990's. He always made sure to ask about my Fire Department career to Fire Chief, like that even mattered. He never attended any of my football games or my kids activities, but he was always in my life and heart. If you want to recall what a real MAN was in our baby boomer youth, read is his bio.
