Richard Emberlin's Obituary
Graveside services for Richard Lee Emberlin, 74, of Longview, will be held at 2p.m Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Rosewood Park Cemetery, under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mr. Emberlin passed away on Thursday, November, 12, 2010 in Dallas.
He was born December 31, 1935, in White Oak, Texas to Fred and Dorothy Emberlin. He attended White Oak High School, the University of Texas at Austin and East Texas State University in Commerce where he received a mathematics degree.
On February 2, 1957, he married Mildred PettyJohn and remained a dedicated husband for 51 years until she passed away on January 6, 2008.
In 1957, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant he completed his degree and received a commission in the Air Force as an officer. He became a Command Navigator and retired as a Major after 28 years. During those years he flew multiple tours in Vietnam from 1968 thru 1972 in the Pacific Air Forces Command and the Strategic Air Command. He compiled over 600 combat hours and was awarded numerous citations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Cluster and V. Later in his career, he worked in Air Training Command's Survival Schools.
After retirement in 1983, he continued his education and became a financial advisor until his second retirement in 2006.
He is survived by children, Diane Emberlin of Sacramento, Calif., Richard Emberlin Jr. Of Dallas, and Joseph Emberlin and wife, Dina of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Michael, Zachary and Elise Emberlin.
