Rena Fay Weatherford's Obituary
Funeral services for Rena Fay Weatherford, 97, of Henderson will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Rader Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Newton officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at Rader Funeral Home. Burial will be at the New Salem Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Dr. Tony Pool, Duane and Randy Weatherford, Brad King, Carey Weatherford, and great-grandson Kyle Brady. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews; Jess Ray Weatherford, Gerald Bundrick, and Albert Richardson.
Mrs. Weatherford went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 1, 2009. She was born December 7, 1911 in Rusk County. She was the daughter of Ida Rosseta Bolton and John Franklin Richardson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and John Richardson, her husband of 52 years Ivin Weatherford, son-in-law Thomas Pool, three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law: Donald and Debbie Weatherford of Longview, Royce and Gwyn Weatherford of Monroe, Bobby and Mary Weatherford of Henderson, and Jerry and Janie Weatherford of Longview; three daughters, Doris Pool of Henderson, Dottie Sue King of Tyler, and Jackie Weatherford of Lufkin.
Rena Fay Richardson married Ivin Weatherford on December 9, 1927 in Lone Star, Texas. They lived in the New Salem Community where they raised seven children. Ivin was a farmer and Rena was a homemaker. She was a Baptist and a longtime member of Mission Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting blankets, and writing short stories. During her lifetime she hand-pieced a quilt for each of her seven children as well as her fifteen grandchildren. She enjoyed making baby quilts for expecting mothers. She was a wonderful cook and her family recipe for biscuits and chocolate is still being enjoyed by her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind many treasured memories and a legacy of faith in God that will live on in each heart of her seven children, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. "Big Mama", as known by her grandchildren , will truly be missed.
