Reba N. Reader's Obituary
Reba Nelle Reader, 96, passed away Monday, December 24, 2018 in Longview.
A private graveside service will be held at Summerfield Cemetery.
Reba was born July 25, 1922 in Colorado City, Colorado, and moved to El Paso as a young child where she grew up. She married the late James M. Reader in 1943. She and Jim moved the family to Longview in 1962. Reba became a beloved first grade teacher at St. Anthony’s School transitioning to St. Mary’s school when it was built and retired after 27 years. She was a devoted member of Summerfield Methodist Church and served many years as a board member of Asbury House; she was a former member of Kiwanis International, Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Reba volunteered numerous hours throughout the years to the annual Asbury House Garage Sale. She was an avid genealogist and her love of cooking was well known at Summerfield and her various clubs. Reba’s candy bowl filled with goodies for friends and family continued to be a staple throughout her adult life.
The family always looked forward to great holiday celebrations that she hosted at her house. She made each one a special memory.
Survivors: Sons, James Reader and wife, Alice, and Michael Reader and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Jonathan Reader and wife, Amy, Rachael Thornburgh, Jamie Bridges and husband, Jeremiah; great grandchildren, Parker, Jack, Libby, Reed, Jordan, and Bailey; great-great-granddaughter, Charli.
The family would like to thank all the excellent caregivers at Buckner’s Westminster Place and Traditions Hospice for their devotion to Reba and her family.
