Funeral services for Reba Mae Strickland Alvis, 69, of Longview, will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, October 16, 2002 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Reverend Billy Foote officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM in Enon Cemetery in Kennard, Texas.
She was born October 22, 1932 in Cherokee, County, Texas to Limbert and Zoia Dean. She passed away Saturday morning, October 12, 2002 at her residence after a short battle with cancer.
A long term resident of Longview and loyal employee of Johnny Cace?s for over 40 years, Reba will be remembered as a kind and loving woman who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends of whom were most important to her. She was known for her love of helping others, playing games, and cooking for anyone and everyone. She was especially known for her chicken and dumplings. She was active in the Lady?s Auxiliary, Property Owners Association, her community, Good Sam?s RV Club, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Alvis was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Carl Dean, and her previous husband, Lee Roy Strickland. She is survived by her husband, Loye Alvis of Longview; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Marsha Strickland of Avinger; Earl and Kathy Strickland of Crowley, Texas; Richard Dean of Palestine; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Doug Sauer of Cleveland, Texas; Melba and Ross Hunt of Longview, stepsons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Brenda Alvis of Marshall, Clyde and Terri Alvis of Mt. Pleasant, David Alvis of Shreveport, 21 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and brother and sister-in-law, John and Elva Dean of Alto, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday evening, October 15, 2002 at the funeral home.

Those serving as pallbearers will include: Dustin Strickland, Lee Strickland, Scott Graeter, James Hunt, Joshua Alvis, and Allen Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will include: John Campbell, Kenneth Lyles, and Naylon Burke.
