Raymond Perry Padden's Obituary
Funeral Services for Raymond Perry Padden, 88, of Houston will be 10:30 AM Monday July 13, 2015 at Greggton United Methodist Church in Longview, Texas with Rev. Ricky Ricks officiating. Interment will be at Hill Crest Cemetery in Haughton, LA at 2:30 PM under direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Ray died July 9 in Houston peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on March 4, 1927 to Thomas Perry Padden and Hope Hamilton Padden, both of whom preceded him as did his loving wife of forty-one years Virginia Dunnam Padden and dear sister, Patricia Belle Mullenix.
Ray was a graduate of the Sewanee Military Academy in Sewanee, Tennessee and the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and completed a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering. Ray was employed by Arkansas Fuel and Oil which later became Cities Service and Occidental Petroleum for more than 30 years.
He was a long time member of Greggton United Methodist Church in Longview, Texas where he served in numerous roles and positions with a loving heart and warm smile. He had a passion for children, his church and community, family and friends. While he spent countless time teaching Sunday school, coaching and refereeing soccer and involved in many other activities, Ray’s favorite project was the Asbury House Child Enrichment Center. He loved the Asbury House kids and could be found reading to the children and sharing his warm and fun personality. He was instrumental in transforming Asbury House from its humble beginnings of a small wood-frame home to the beautiful facility it is today serving scores of deserving families each year.
Ray is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Perry and Melissa Padden of Houston, two grandsons Jacob and Cooper Padden of Houston, a brother-in law Louis Mullenix of Dallas, nieces and nephews Hope, Clint, Andrew and Charlotte Pete of Raleigh, N.C., Lucy, Hailey, and Hunter Rankin of Boerne, TX, Tom, Robin, Dylan and Dayani Mullenix of Flower Mound, TX, and Woody and Ellye Belle Gordon.
Honorary pallbearers are: Kevin Allums, Greg Butts, Robert Cox, Robert Hamilton, Jeff House, Brad Irick, Steven Self, Wayne Tolliver, David Wood and Shannon Wright. It is Ray’s wish that any memorials be given to Asbury House Child Enrichment Center, Greggton United Methodist Church or the Arthritis Foundation.
