Raymond Newton Hatchell's Obituary
Raymond Newton Hatchell, 82, died at his home, Tuesday, April 08, 2003, surrounded by those he loved.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Miller and Rev. Jerry Turner officiating under direction of Rader Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Raymond was a graduate of Longview High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his degree in Mechanical design from their school of Engineering.
He started his career with Westinghouse in Pittsburg, PA, but returned to Texas to have a lifelong career with King Tool Company as chief engineer. Here, he designed, manufactured and shipped fabricated vessels throughout the world. He retired at age 73.
In 1973, Raymond married ?His Family?, Bonnie Lewis Moberley, son, Gary Moberley and daughter, Jan. He was a wonderful husband, loving father, and was cherished by his children.
Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Austin C.Judge Hatchell, his brother, Austin Hatchell, his sister, Virginia Baxter, nephew, John Baxter, and his son, Gary Moberley. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Jan Moberley; niece and nephew, Dale and Roger Sage and Mike and Molly Hatchell; sister-in-law, Betsy Hatchell, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Raymond was active in civic duties serving wherever needed. He was a member of the Jaycees, a charter member of the Longview Greggton Rotary Club and was honored with a Paul Harris Fellowship in Rotary. He was a member of Pine Crest Country Club and an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served as usher, chaired the Society of St. Stephens and filled his seat every Sunday morning.
Raymond?s life was a happy one. He was funny, and fun loving, dancing, bridge, travel, and fellowship with friends. He liked everyone he met and found no fault with anyone. His greatest achievement was that he was loved, respected and enjoyed by all who knew him.
The family thanks and treasures the tender care of Dr. Michael Leath, his staff and Hospice Longview.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Longview or to the First United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, April 9, 2003 from 5:30 until 7:30 PM.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, great nephews and great great nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Wilson, Harold Turner and Chuck Slade.
