Raymond I. Curry's Obituary
On June 10, 2023, Raymond Irvin Curry entered the presence of his Savior while surrounded by his family. He was 89 years old at the time of his death at Avalon Memory Care in Lewisville, Texas. Raymond will be buried alongside his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia Ann Hays Curry, at Rosewood Park in Longview, Texas.
Raymond was born on February 27, 1934, in Magnolia, Arkansas to Alice Story Curry and Benjamin Hill Curry. After graduating from Magnolia Senior High School in 1952, Raymond joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas. He proudly served his country as a senior aircraft mechanic during the Korean War. After the service, he returned home where he fell in love with Pat. On June 21, 1959, Raymond and Pat were married at Central Baptist Church in Magnolia. After briefly living in Shreveport, Louisiana and working for Schlumberger Oilfield Services, the couple relocated to Longview, Texas where Raymond began his career at Eastman Kodak. Using the mechanic skills learned in the Air Force, Raymond spent 35 years at Eastman in the maintenance department, retiring in 1995 as a supervisor.
Throughout his life, Raymond demonstrated his love for Christ through dedicated service as a church layman. For many years he taught third grade Sunday School and served as a deacon at Oakland Heights Baptist Church, First Baptist Longview and finally Mobberly Baptist Church. Raymond loved airplanes—especially World War I and World War II vintage military planes—and was an avid radio control model airplane enthusiast. Throughout his life, he was a diehard Arkansas Razorback football fan enjoying calling the Hogs at games attended with his family. As evidence of his faith and belief in Christ, Raymond was a loving husband and giving father who sacrificed to provide his family with opportunities—just as his Savior did for him. The example and blessing of a good father is not lost on his children who will miss him dearly as they do their mother. However, through the sadness of losing one’s parents there is also joy knowing the painful years of memory loss are finally over and Raymond and Pat are reunited and made new in the presence of the Lord.
Raymond is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Renee and Paul Anthony Morgan of Flower Mound, Texas; son Benjamin Hays Curry of Dallas; grandchildren Garrett Hays and Shaina Morgan, Anthony Bryce Morgan, and Truett Hill Morgan. He is also survived by nieces Kathy Goodman of West Monroe, Louisiana; Karen Prather of El Dorado, Arkansas; and Robin Taylor of Magnolia, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
