Rand Cates' Obituary
Funeral services for Mr. Rand Cates, age 81 of Henderson, will be held Friday October 10, 2008 at 11:00am at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Ross & Rev. Bruce Rudd officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Rader Funeral Home of Henderson.
Mr. Cates died Tuesday October 7, 2008 at the Howeth House in Mt. Enterprise.
Rand Cates was born June 19, 1927 in Minden, Texas to Ennis & Beatrice Cates, he graduated from Minden High School. After graduation he joined the US Army where he served in World War II in Korea. After his military service Mr. Cates returned to Rusk County where he became a self employed businessman. Mr. Cates was a well renown for his ability as a car dealer, cattleman, and rancher. Mr. Cates owned the Cadillac and Oldsmobile car dealership as well as other businesses. Mr. Cates, who served the community as a City Councilman during the 1970's was a member of many civic and service organizations including VFW Post 8535, and helped other government agencies during his life. Mr. Cates was a lifetime member of the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served many positions including a Deacon for over 40 years. Rand Cates was loved by his family and in his later years enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Patsy Armstrong Cates of Henderson, son Michael Rand Cates & wife Judy of Henderson, daughters Della Cates Taylor of Henderson, and Lafon Bailey & husband Carl of Allen. Granddaughter Brittney Bailey, and great grandchildren Aleigha and Alec Bailey, sister Erma Faust of Minden
Pallbearers will be David Mansinger, Odis Chapman, Dan Cates, Don Armstrong, Donald Reynolds, David Rousseau, Jerry Lee Griffith, and Mark Mann
The family visitation will be Thursday from 5pm until 7pm at the funeral home.
