Ramona Airhart's Obituary
Ramona Kaye Williams Airhart was born June 30, 1959 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Gary Douglas Williams and Julia Elizabeth Brown Williams. Many friends and family called her “Mona”. Ramona was a graduate of Southwood High School in 1977. She was a member of the Pep Squad for her 9th and 10th grade year. She attended Northwestern University and graduated in 1985 with a nursing degree (all while raising a 5 year old daughter and 4 year old son). She worked at Good Shepherd Medical Center, Longview Regional Medical Center (where she was supervisor for a few years over Maternal Child and Pediatrics), College Station Medical Center, and Tomball Medical Center. Her nursing passion was working in the Nursery and NICU. She witnessed the miracle of birth and death at times; and she saved many little lives.
Ramona Airhart passed away at the age of 55 on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in Bryan, Texas. She was being treated at Hospice of Brazos County for complications due to cancer treatment. After a week of listening to her closest family and friends as they circled around her, crying and telling stories, she took her last breaths as her son Warren sat alongside her.
Ramona Airhart is survived by her daughter Carly Findley and husband Andrew Findley of Hockley, TX; son, Warren Fleet of Longview, TX; daughter Kayla Airhart of College Station, TX; sisters, Renee Brooks and husband Charlie Brooks of Shreveport, LA, Richea Norden and husband Jeff Norden of Bowling Green, KY; brother, Gary Williams Jr. (Buddy) and wife Laura Williams of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Carson and Alaina Fleet of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Madison Findley of Hockley, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family and friends in Texas and Louisiana. Her favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas because she could spend time with those closest to her heart.
Ramona was preceded in death by her grandson, Keaton Fleet. She always said “look for hawks” because Keaton’s name means place of the hawks.
Ramona wrote all of her precious memories into a book called “A Grandparent’s Legacy”. In her words, she comforts us now:
“Even though life is filled with struggles and heartbreaks and doesn’t seem fair – it’s still worthwhile. You may find yourself feeling discouraged and then a little spark happens – a person, a memory, a rainbow, a star, a hawk – and you have an “Aha” moment. So you pray for strength and hang in there for what life brings you – remembering the best is yet to come.”
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas with Pastor Mark Bray officiating. Family and friends will travel to Rosewood Cemetery in Longview, Texas directly following the service to view her final resting place.
